CRIMINAL SESSIONS.

The Supreme Courb criminal sessions commenced to-day before Mr Justice Conolly. Thore is a small calendar, including five indictments against Alfred William Croft, late Deputy Official Assignee here, two of breaking and entering, two of horso sbealing cases, and bhe atbempted suicide of a Maori girl. Crofb pleaded guilty. Sentence was deferred till to-morrow. Tli6 Maori girl pleaded guilty and was ordered to come up for sentence when called on. James Humphreys pleaded guilty to breaking and entering,, and was sentenced to six months in Auckland gaol. Chrtstchurch, this day. The criminal sessions opened to-day. There are fourteen cases for trial, but none of any importance, except a charge againsb bho cook of tho ship Everest for setting fire to her. Tho Judge, in his charge,referred to the absence of crimes of violence from the calendar, and said though the calendar was a lengthy one, no serious cases were included.
