SABBATH SCHOOLS.

At the Presbyterian General Assomby yesterday afternoon, Rev. Mr Doull, in presenting tho Sabbath Schools Committee report," stated thab he had received 71 schedules of statistics. Those returns represented 148 Sunday -schools, with a roll number of 10.758, and an average attendance of 8,157. The teaching stall numbered 460 male and 691 female. The shorter cabechism was taught in 59 schools out of 71; six schools reported thab ib was nob taught, and live gave no answers. A pleading feature of tho report was the increasing promiuonce given to services for the young. The international scheme of lessons was overwhelmingly adopted, only six schools reporting the use of bho Sunday-school Union lessons. For convenience in examinations, Mr Doull urged thab ib was expedient to adhere to one scheme of lessons.—Rev. Treadwell moved the adoption of bho report, strongly urging bhe imporbanco of Sabbath School work.— Ib was resolved : — " Adopt tho report wibh thanks to bho Committee and especially to tho convener, urge on all ministers and superintendents to send the schedules in due time to the convener, direct Presbyteries to give all duo assistance to bho Committee in conducting tho annual examination, and express the sense entertained by the Assembly of the very great value of the services rendered by the very large body of teachers engaged in Sunday-school work throughout bhe Church." Ib wa3 stated thab Onehunga, Sb. Andrew's, and St. David's, Auckland, had nob paid their assessment of 4s 3d, 24s 2d, and 12s Id respectively for printing and postage iv connection wibh the recent examination.—Rev. Mr West urged thab an amount should be paid pro rata by each Prosbybery and thab individual congregations should nob have been taxed in addition to their expenditure upon prizes. Tho Sunday schools would be satisfied to have the matter ventilated and would now pay the amount levied.
