Tho Bank of England returns published to-day show the total reserve to be £15,676,000, being an increase of £1,310,000 over the previous week. The proportion of reserve to liabilities ia 44.84.
Consols, 95i. Three month?.' bills have advanced £ per cent.
New Zealand 4 per cent, inscribed stock, 100 ; B_ per cent, ditto, 91|. There ia an increased firmness in the wheat market, bub prices are unchanged. A general rise of Jd per lb has taken place in Now Zealand frozen mutton. Lamb is quoted at 6d.
New Zealand hemp is in moderate demand at previous rates.
Kauri gum is in fair demand ab a slight decline. Fine pale scraped, £8 ss; half scraped, £3 15s.
The butter mar-kef; ia steadier. The consignment ex Arorangi fetched from 863 to 112s per cwt.
Sugar, German beet, 14s Ud. .No. 1 best Scotch pig iron, f.o.b. in Clyde, <".,3 3j restricted business.
