PRESENTATION TO MR F.W. EDWARDS.
The presentation to Mr F. W. Edwards, late captain of the Woßt End Rowing Club, which eventuates at, an early date, will be one of the handsomest made to a private individual in this city. The esprit de corps aud good fellowship which reigns in tho West End Club could scarcely be better illustrated than in this parting expression of regard and esteem to the man who has captained them for five years. The presentation, which will shortly be publicly exhibited, takes the form of a large frame made by George and Co., of rich gold and dead ebony surrounding a bouqaet group of carte de visile portraits of members. They aro mounted on a superb piece of silver maple with a satin-like surface. Each oval opening contains a portrait under a little mount by itself in solid silver, tho design being a twisted cable. As may bo imagined, tho I effect is exceedingly rich and Imndflomo. On the maple and between tho oval openings are painted orossod oars, black with tho well • known red band. In the centre there \n v laryo, Hat plate of solid, dead silver. Thin has boon engravod by Mr H. V. Martin. Tho workmanship is really oxqui«ito. Tho silver mounting round the photo is very pretty and graceful, and the effect with the other cartes in the oval openings on every side is unique. We hear the design was Mr Martin's. The name 3of the members and committee men are under each photo. The likenesses are, by the way, most excellent ones.
