WAITEMATA COUNTY COUNCIL.
After we went to press yesterday an amount of further business was transacted at the Waitcmata County Council meeting. Mr O'Neill moved, " That tenders be called for metalling the Hobsonville and Swanson Roads and tho Great North Road near Henderson, the length of metalling on each road to be decided by the engineer." The motion was carried.
A document circulated by the Council amongst the Takapuna residents with reference to the proposal to acquire a recreation reserve in tho Takapuna district, of about 18 acres, was handed in to the Counoil, the result being that 38 voted for the proposal, and -44 against. Another paper also circulated by tho Council in order to ascertain the feeling of the ratepayers with reference to tho proposed raising of a loan to grade the road between Takapuna and Devonport resulted : For, 43 signatures ; against, 46. The Council decided to fall in with tho wishes of the ratepayers, and to take no action in either matter. Mr W. J. Napier wrote calling attention to tho wrongful enclosure of a road adjoining the Roman Catholic property at Lake Takapuna by putting a gate up and thus debaring the public from using the road. It was decided to compel the removal of the obstruction, and also to notify that all swing-gates across roads in tho Lake district be removed. It was decided to give effect to a suggestion of the engineer that in future, in order to keep roads and bridges in good repair, anyone desiring to haul timber over the roads should be required to obtain permission from the Council, and to enter into a bond to pay the cost of making good any damage resulting from their operations.
