It; appears that . death took place in the native settlement ab Takahue. and as is bhe custom irt such cases, a large number of Maoris assembled. Hone Rameka wa3 discharging a doublebarrelled cun, when ib burst, with the result that" his left hand was absolutely blown off. Dr. Trimnell was sent for, and amputated tho stump at tho wrist. Apparently, no one is to blame. Tho unfortunate Maori is 27 years of age.
