OUR ATHLETES.

THE CHAMPIONSHIP MEETING.

(BY TELEGRAPH.—SPECIAL REPORTER.)

Christchurch, this day. Great was our disgust and disappointment this uiornirif;. when woweroawakened out of our peaceful slumbers by the persistent dripping of steady rain. The downpour continued steadily all morning, and at 8 o'clock it looked as if it had seb in,for the day. At 10 o'clock, as the rain had shown no abatement, a Committee meeting was held, and they decided to visit Lancaster Park to inspect the racing track. Another meeting was then called, and as there were large numbers of people in town from all parts of the country, the Executive decided to postpone tho first event till 3.30 o'clock. It the weather is more favourable, then a start will be made. People are congregated ab all the principal athletic rooms, talking over the situation, and great sympathy is expressed wibh the Association, as tho rain must have anybhing but a beneficial result on the attendance as well as the racing. All our boys are well and Burton and Buchanan are in great heart for bheir evenbs to-day. J. A. Cooper, of our Club, has been appointed judge of the bicycle races. . .

[If the sporbs proceed to-day we shall publish extras to-'nighb giving the results of tho various events.] •
