The Auckland Swimming Club are now considering the desirability of sending a polo team to take part in tho Christchurch championship contests. Seven men are required, and, if the financial difficulty can be overcome, the Club will no doubt tlecida to increaso the number of their represents* tives accordingly. The prizes are for competition at sports to be held at the watchmakers' and jewellers' picnic at Motutopts on Wednesday next, the 10th inst. Being advised of large shipments of autumn goods per cargo steamer Duke of Westminster (expected in Auckland about 17th inst.) and other steamers and sailing vessels due at early dates, Smith and Cautjhey are compelled to clear the balance of their summer stock regardless of coet 9 ,to make room.
