The annual meeting of AH Saints' (Pon■onby) parishioners was held last evening, tho Rev. W. Calder presiding. The annual report showed that during the year there had been 67 baptisms, 29 persons confirmed, 14 marriages, 80 celebrations, and 1,825 communications. The total income amounted to £789 15s sd, and the expenditure to £343 8e sd, leaving a debit balance (bank overdraft) of £53 13s. The offertory and seat rents amounted to £523 Is 5d and £202 14s respectively, showing an increase of £73 173 6d for the year. The debt on thij church was finally cleared off by a special effort made on Sunday, 23rd August last, bufc the churchwardens, in order to meet all payments to 31st December, contracted for an overdraft amounting to £60. Liabilities were estimated at £043, and against this were placed outstanding pew rents, £12. A special collection was suggested for payment of the overdraft. The adoption of the report was moved by tho Chairman and seconded by Mr lons- Jford.
Mr Upcon urged that as the income required for the currenb year would be about £100 leas than that required last year, there wa3 no need for a special colleijtion as suggested in the report. He moved as an amendment, "Thab the clause referred***) be expunged." The Chairman having stated that the clause referred to was nothing more than a suggestion, Mr Upton withdrew his amendment, and the motion was carried. The Sunday-school report, which was also adopted, showed that the average attendance of scholars for the year was 387, number on the roll 450, highest attendance 427. The officers and teachers numbered 35, their average attendance toeing 31-6. The attendance of scholars increased from 119 in 1880, to 357 in 1891. The school balance - sheot showed total receipts £174 9s 9d, and the expenditure £J22 19s, leaving a balance in hand of £51 103 9d ; liabilities, £78 15s 9d ; assets, £57 3s 9.1.
Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follows:—Minister's churchwarden, Mr C. Macindoe ; people's churchwarden, Mr J. Poneford; vestry, Messrs Furby, Carder, Sandos, Bedford, Wright, Ogle, Taylor, Warnock, Oswald, Cobb, and Dr. Bayntun ; auditors, Messrs Lupher and Boardman ; Sunday-school auditors, Messrs Henderson and Cruickshank.
The salaries were fixed the same as laab year, viz., incumbent, £350; organist, £40; verger, £40. Soma discussion ensued upon a suggestion made by the Chairman thab it might be advisable to make one of tbo services more simple for those who were not usod to the arrangement of the Prayer Book. He thought thoy might comply with the rubric by having tho ordinary evening service in the afternoon, and a special service in the evening, or they might have a spocial service after the usual evening service. Mr Upton thought these questions should be discussed with great care, and thab the proper place for their discussion was the Synod. No resolution wfis arrived at, and the meeting concluded with votes of thanks to the outgoing vestry, the choir, officers, Sunday-school teachers, and auditors.
