AUCKLAND POLO CLUB.
The Auckland Polo Club held their weekly meeting on Saturday afternoon at .Potter's Paddock. The play took the form of a match between the town and country members, the former boing represented by Messrs Cologrove, Lockbart, Stewart, and Wnnsbrougn ; the latter by Messrs Francis, Mackellar, Stubbing, Whewoll, and Wynyard. During the firat spell the town won by 2 goals to nothing, the players then adjourning for afternoon tea, which was enjoyed with their numerous visitors. At 5.30 the "combatants upon their remounts again entered the lists, and once more the town members proved themselves the masters. After twenty minutes' play the umpire, Mr Robert Garrett, called for five minutqs' rest, a goal having just been brilliantly secured with a splendid gallop by Mr Stewart. For the third spell the sides were made nearer equal by Mr Lockhart exchanging with Mr Stubbing. For some time the town side seemed to be again the stronger, winning the first goal ; but, gathering their forces together, the others, supported by Mr Lockhart, seconded by a brilliant effort from Messrs Whewell and Francis, who throughout had distinguished themselves by their fast ! riding and sure hitting, completely galloped down their assailants, winning two goals. There were only two mild accidents, one during the first spell, when Mr Lockhart rolled over with his pony, and in the second, when Mr Mackellar did likewise. Both, however, quickly resumed play apparently quite unhurt.
