FAILURES IN LIFE.
A saddening scene occurred ab the Police Courb this morning, when four losblooking specimens of humanity were i charged with not having sufficient means 'of support. Mesers J. P. King and H. Anderson were on the bench. William Evans, 87 years of age, stated that he waa too old to work. Constable Grey deposed to finding the •Id man sleeping oub on the Railway KβOlamation. The Bench suggested this was a fib case for the Costloy Home. Sergeant-Major Pratt stated that the man refused to remain in the Home. The Bench said ib would be & charity to eend him to gaol. Sentenced to three months' imprisonment with bard labour. Henry Williams pleaded guilty to having been drunk, for which conviction waa recorded. The same prisoner was sentenced to three xnonfcbV imprisonment with hard labour as an idle and disorderly person. Evidence was given by Constables Grey and Mathieson as to finding him on the Reclamation. Lawrence Kilgollon, who was arrested on r similar charge, was remanded until Thursday, as he waa in such a condition that ib was necessary to send him to the Hospital. John James Brock was nimilarly charged. Constable Mathieson deposed that the defendant waa 67 years of age. He found the man lying oub amongst the herbage on the Railway Reclamation. He had seen him there frequently during the last forbnight. . Defendant said he bad ab one time owned considerable property in the city acd suburbs.
The Bench sentenced him also to three months' imprisoning 5 with hard labour.
