The immigration and emigration returns for December show the arrivals to have been 2,022 persons, and the depar.ure_9.., leaving a balance in favour of the colony oi 1,083 persons. The arrivals were :—From the United Kingdom, 389; New South Wales, 1,012; Victoria, 431; Tasmania, 104; other places, 86. The departures were :—To the United Kingdom, 63 ; New South Wales, 498 ; Victoria, 254; Tasmania, 83; obher places, 51. The Chines, arrivals are given as nil, and departures 23,'
