LATE SPORTING.
TEE MUSKET STAKES,
MR HUNGERFORD DEMANDS AN INQUIRY.
There has been a good deal of dissatisfaction expressed ab tho results of bwo of the events run at Ellerslie races on Saturday. Mr Hungerford, the owner of Whakawatea, is especially wroth with tho running of his colt in the Musket Stakes, and has expressed his willingness to run North Atlantic again.
To-day Mr Hungerford sent in a letter to the Auckland Racing Club asking that the stewards hold an inquiry into the riding of the jockey Gallagher on Whakawatea in tho Musket Stakes. In the course of his letter Air Hungerford say 3 : " I have every reason to believe tlrab the race was not run on its merits. Gallagher rode Whakawatea entirely contrary to orders given him by my trainer. I have also proof where a bookmaker, just previous to the race, was offering totalisator biekets which were previously taken out on Whakawhaka. As it is generally believed by the public thab I am implicated in the affair, I will thank you to get the stewards to hold an inquiry."
