Nairnshire, from Sydney. 25. — Sailed : Swanmore, barque, Brown, for London, with cargo of 50,700 sacks of grain. 29.—Arrived : Gripen, Swedish ship, Ryeberg, from Melbourne. A handsome addition to the yachting fleet of this porfc has been launched by Mr C. Bailey from hie yard in Customs-street West, in the shape of a smart-looking four-ton yacht, built to the order of Mr She has been named the Constance. On the 23rd insb., a Ru3sian man-o'-war, the Djighit, 1,500 tons, Captain Foelkerscihm, arrived at Auckland from VJadivostoek (Russia), via Yokohama, the Marshall Group, Fiji. She left Suva on the 15th for Auckland, under canvas alone. She will replenish her stores here, and will then resume her voyage home to Cronstadb by way of South America. She is on her way home from the Pacific station. ' The wooden tnrque Rebecca, 414 tons, of Sydney, under charge of Captain Molaaucs, her owner, went ashore in the Kaipara, when the was leaving the harbour with a cartjo ot sawn kauri timber for Melbourne, ladevi at the Northern VVairoa and a<; IVhi, She struck on the Mary Kathleen bank, ]»»<■• in-ido Kaipara Heads, and stuck there. She was in tow of the s.s. Kopuru ab the time. The barque was floated off the bank on Dacomber 20th, but was making a lot of water. The Auckland yacht Winona, 16 tons, Captain Austin, arrived at Wellington from Samoa on December 23rd, after a voyage of 20 days. Captain Austin reports that after leaving Samoa heavy winds were encountered, and the *ails becoming damaged ho was obliged to call at Vavau to effect repairs. A cable message received from Hobarfc on Dec. 14 stated that the briganoine Seabird, bound to New Zealand, had gone ashore in Maequarrie Harbour (Tasmania), and had become a total wreck. The Seabird is an Auckland vessel, being: owned here b> Captain A. Gibbs, owner'of the echoonor Konilworth and other vessels. She is a brieantine of 15b tons register, built; in Tasmania in 1865. Captain Gibbs purchased her about six months ago, and recently sent her across from Auckland, via Greymouth, to Mount Zeehan (Tasmania). The hull is insured in a Melbourne office. Nothing is known as to the insurance on her cargo. The ship Everest, 1,680 tons, Captain Bibberb, from Sydney (November 18) to Liverpool, with a cargo of shale, pub in to Lyttelton on December 9th in distress, having sprung a leak. Tho Everest sprang a leak immediately after leaving Sydney, but as tho windmill pump kept the water down and the weather was fine, the captain proceeded on his way. When to the south of New Zealand, the weather became stormy and the leak gave more trouble, and on November 26th, after being at work nearly all night, the men asked the captain to make for a New Zealand port. Finding from the well that the vessel wae making only three inches per
hour, he refused, bub on December 3rd, tthe leak increased and the weather wu stormy, he headed for New Zealand. On the morning of Dec. 5 H.M.s auxiliary cruiser Tauranga, Captain Nesham, was floated into tho Calliope Graving Dock for cleaning and over 'iaul, being the first British warship o dock here for the past year. She is still in dock, Mr Charles Bailey being the successful tenderer for the job of docking the ship. Early on the morning of the 11th the Ringarooma left for the South. She got up anchor in the stream at about 5 a.m., and steamed out ot the "harbour, bound for Banks' Peninsula. After a brief stay at Akavoa Captain Bourke will tako his ship ro Lyttelton, where tha New Year will be spent.
