In the libel action brought by J. Evison, editor and manager of bhe "Catholic Times," againsb Thornbon and Heinriehs, bl>e pi.osidenb and secretary of the Wellington Typographical Apsooiation, the jury, after a, short deliberation, reburned a verdicb for the plnintift lor £50 damages, costs according to Kca]e being allowed. Mr Jellicoe, for the defendants, asked that execution be delayed, as it was probable he would apply for a new trial. Therequest was granted. The Waiiiui brings news that the High Commißsioner'p Court for the Western lV n .ific sat at Fiji a few weeks ago tti take certain de bene es.ie evidence in a case wherein the Commander of U.M.S. RoyaiK-t claimed bo have, the schooner Emiiy Fisher and her cargo condemned as forfeited bo Her Majesty, for violation of the Pacific Wanders Protection Acts, 1872 and 1875. The violation referred to is thab of the ship having Pacific Istanders on board without a license to carry bho same. The evidence of Capbain Davies waa taken and further 1 proceedings will be htid in clue course.
An effort will probably soon be made through the Auckland Acclimatisation Society to transplant a large soft-shell crab, said to be a delicious edible, from California to New Zealand coastal waters.
