A concert in aid of funds for school sports afc Maketu was held in school on Friday, December IS, and proved a great success. The management; was in tho hands of Mr W. H. Nicholson, lioad fcenchor ; Mr_ Ashdown, Chairman of Committee, presiding. The accompaniments were played in her usual excellent manner by MUs Lynch, who also gave two piano solos with great success. The programme was a good one, and amongst the vocalists may be mentioned Wis3 M. Callaghen, who rendered Pinsuti's " White Wings" in excellent style ; Dr. Carolan, who was very suocessfulin "Ida was ti Little Girl," from Opera of " Princess Ida," and Misses Criepo and Atkin in the duet, "Hark, There's Music Stealing," which was very prettily rendered. The older school sii'la sang the " Canadian Boat Song " exceedingly nicely. Mr Ashdown and Rev. Mr Norric gave readings which wero received with eclat. Messrs Flanigan and Lowe appeared in character .(Christy Minstrels) and fairly brought down the house with their humorous songs and dances. The thanks of the Committee are due to all the ladies and gentlemen who assisted to make the concort a success. The usual dance followed, and wne kept up with spirit till early morning. The choicest variety in men's hats, ties, gllk handkerchiefs, shirts, braces ahd socks suitable for present season in Auckland, afc Smith and Caughey's, at-lowest cash jprices.—(A.dvt.)
