WATERING THE STREETS.
Ddrino the summer months the subject of streeb watering ia a frequent topicof discussion at the meetings of the City Council This, of course, is brought aooub by thenumberof applications from tradospeopte and others to have their streets watered bo keep down the dusb nuisance. Ihe brouble in connection with the matter is tho amounb of water consumed thereby, and whether there is a possibility of the kuddlv running short in consequeuca. Ab Thursday's meeting of the Council a renorb was read from the City Engineer advising the necessity for conserving the water surtply as much as possible by reducing the anftitity now used for streeb wabenng. The Engineer thought there was nothing yet to bo "alarmed about, bub ib is advisable to bake all necessary precautions to prevent waste, and to conserve the supply ab the early parb of the season. VVhen required the supply can be increased on a few days n'o.icoabany time from Edgecumbe . UeeK all necessary preparations being made foi that purpose. A sharp look-out w lequhed or piivoto services, to see that no unnecessary waste goes on, and that waber '°1 in good order, also thab garden hoe are nob unduly used." On Suoaay nexb the Albert-street Baths will be filled with salt water for the first time t'ts sea--rm and bhe Engineer recommends that stilt water be used from cue reservoir in the Hebrew cemetery for watering Queen-street, wd the adjoining side streets. Furbher on, it the weather keeps dry, the watering o other streets with fresh water will no doub* Save to be abandoned, unless we have _tl*_ rains to increase the supply. In a discussion that ensued on the reporb, Co.mc lor Cooper said he could see no reZn why the streets should nob bo watered with salt water.
