The splendid acceptances received last nighb for the Cup, Steeplechase, Derby, and Foal Stakes give promise that tho three days' gabhering will be full of inberesb, and a mosb successful meeting may be looked forward to. Eleven have accepted for bho Cup, including bhe visitors British Lion, Fraternite, Brigand, Lebel, and Queen of Trumps, so bhab bhe eonbesb should be a keen one. Now thab Freedom is scrabched, punbers have hit on Lebel as a likely member to win, and if he goes to bho post sound and well, he musb prove a broublesomo customer to beat. Tho three- ■ year-old division have not been very successful in pasb Auckland Cups, and al though Crackshob gob home firsb lasb year, Welcome Jack is the only other animal of that age who has won. However, that goes for nothing, as Lebel is nicely handicapped ab 7.7, and he can both stay and go fast. British Lion is in such a winning vein jusb now bhab he cannob be lefb out of calculations, but a colb I have some difficulby in summingupjustnowisFraternite.
