BOARD OF EDUCATION.

The ordinary meeting of tho BoarcUof Education was held to-day, the memberapresent being : Messrs R. Udv (chairman), Motion, Luke, Muir, Grant, Moat, Buckhurst, and LenDox. . Chairman's Report.—The Chairman areport, which was adopted, stated bhab a. programme of selecbed -übjeebs for scholar--ships examination (December, 1892) had' been issued to head teachers. Resignationshad been received from Mr Neil Heath, head-; master Mount' Albert School; Mr J. Pain,; teacher, Whatawhafca; Miss Elizabeth M. Gibb, teacher, Waihi; Miss C. L. Robert-; son, assistant, Newmarkeb; Miss M.-. Astley, assistant, Dargaville; Miss H. M. Chappell, pupil teacher No. 1 school, Tauranga. Arrangements had been made aa follows;—Mr Thos. Day, relieving beacher temporarily to Wellesley-street; Miss M. H. Currie to Newton East, during temporary absence of assistant. Whangaeei Heads.—lb was resolved fc<y make this a full-time school. Port Chables. —Ib was agreed to provide a teacher and school requisites for this district. Albeetland North.—On the mobion of IMr Moat it was resolved to procure a siba and erecb a school at once. I Heleksville. —An applicabion for enlargement of school was held over for further information. Kuaoiunu.—The Chairman stabed thab the Boi-d would no doubb have to erecb a school here soon, and fche Inspector who was no\y in bbc disbricb would reporb upon bhe subject. Taikda.—lb was resolved bo provide additional accommodation for thirty-five childrenafc the Tairua School.

Te Puke.—An application for erection of a five-roimed house for the school teacher was granted. Waiwera Springs.—lb was agreed bo vote bhe amounb required for erection of a school, provided a site is provided by property owners.

Whabgarata.—A teacher's house of five rooms wis ordered to be builb.

Auckland City.—Application was mada, for repairs to schools and playgrounds ia Auckland City, for which the estimates given were as follows :—Wellesley-sbreet, £213 Is 6d; Nelson-streeb, £118 ; Napier--sbreeb, £26 16s; Beresford-streeb, £53 9s; total for four schools, £432 16s 6d. Mr Muir sbated thab the whole of the proposed work was absolutely necessary. A Commibtee appointed by bhe Board had satisfied themselves as bo the requirements of the various schools. He moved thab the work be done as proposed, and this was agreed fco, an by Mr Granb to omit inside painting being losb. Ib was farther resolved, on the motion of Mr Buckhurs., "That fche Cifcy Schools Committee be asked bo contribute one half the cost."

D-Evonpobt.-- On the recommendation of* Mr Allrighfc ib was agreed to provide venebion blinds and ventilators for bhe Devonport School. ■ Lower Matakana. — The Chairman sbafced the attendance ab this school had dropped to nine children, of which three were over school age.—lb was decided to take no action at present. Opotiki and ■ Tauranga. — Application was made for re-examinafcion of the Opotiki and .Tauranga school bhis year, dissatisfaction having been expressed on account of the alteration in dates caused by the illness of one Inspector.—No action waa taken. «.,

OtaH-HU.—A request to hold the standard examination ab Otahuhu in April instead of March was referred to the Inepecbors. '

Tababu.—a request for extra grant for school fund was declined.

Mount Almjrt.— The Executive Committee had selected five names to be senb to the Mount Albert Committee as teachers eligible for appointment as head teacher of Mounb Albert School. Two of the teachers named declined nomination. Ib was sbated that fche Mount Albert. Commifc.ee wished the appointment of Mr Talbot, bub nothing was officially before the Board. Of tho three names heading the lisb submibted to the Committee the name of Mr O'Donoghue was ab bhe head.— Ib'was resolved to again submit the three names of those teachers besb qualified for the position, fco enable bhe Commifcfcee to nominate one of fche fcrio, on the understanding fchab otherwise bhe Board would appoint the teacher having fche best qualifications.
