THE AUXILIARY SQUADRON.
Yesterday afternoon H.M. new auxiliary cruiser Riugarooma, Captain Bourke, at present lying in the harbour, was vieited by largo numbers' of townspeople, curiou3 to inspocfc the latest contrivances in the way of machinery and weapons on ships of war. The visitors were courteously received, and the officers and men put themselves to some trouble to show tho people over the ship. The vessel will be op.?n for public inspection every afternoon thisi weok. Yesterday forenoon a party ot bluejackets from H.M.S. Binfjfarooma and H M s Tauranga landed and marched up to'service at St. Paui's Anglican Church. Thia morning the Calliope Deck, into which H.M.s. Tanranga had been floated on Saturday for cleaning and overhaul, was pumped out and the warship waa efficiently shored up by Mr Chas. Bailey and a party of twenty workmen. Cleaning operations were commenced during the day, the ship a bottom being very foul. She will remain in dock for eeveral days.
