For Tales not exceeding in length three :olumna of the Star, having special refer3nce to Christmas time, and having the scene wholly or partially laid in New Zealand, the following prizes will be given :— First Prize £3 0 0 Second Prizo, " Defenders ol New Zealand," value „,. ... 2 0 0 No. 2-—Christmas Poem. The Poem must deal with the season aa experienced in New Zealand, and not exceed fifty lines in length. First Prize, "Early History of New Zealand," value £2 6 0 Second Prize, Handsome Book* Mo. 3—Juvenile Competition Open to Boys or Girls under 16 years ot ego, for the beat NARRATIVE OF NEW ZEALAND LIFE AND ADVENTURE (True or fictitious), in length about one column of the Star. The following: Prizes are offered : — FirstPrize,handsomeßook, value £2 0 0 Second Prizo, Book, value ~, 010 0 GENERAL CONDITIONS, 1. Each competition is open to all New Zealand. 2. All contributions must be original, nob previously published, and written legibly on ono side of the paper. 5. Communications must roach the Star Office not later (than Ist November, and must in every case be accompanied by the name and address of the sender, which ehould be endowed in separate sealed envelope, marked outside with a motto corresponding with the norn de plume at~ tached to the competition article. 4. Competitors are requested to address their contributions " Christmas Competition (No. 1, 2, or 3, as the case may be), Star Ofnoe, Auckland." 5; The Proprietor of the Star shall have the right of publishing any of the contributions sent in, whether awarded a prize or not. 6. The prize stories, etc., with the name and address of the writer attached, will be published in the Star Christmas Number of 1891. 7. Competitors are invited to send pen or pencil illustrations with their papers ; but this is not obligatory, and compliance or non-compliance with fche request will not) affect the judging.
