GUM MARKET.
Auckland, 21efc October, 1891
Since our last report the Auckland market; continues unchanged, being firm for good ordinary and poor qualities Btill neglected. Private cables from London advise the lower grades still dull and unchanged, and only the price of number ono gum is restored to prices which were ruling before the late heavy fall in London. A report was circulated here since last mail to the effect that some gum was burned in New York, but a special cabled inquiry resulted in a distinct contradiction of this statement. So far as we have been able fco ascertain, there is no change in East Coast, but transactions since our last report have been few, and buyers and sellers have both been reticent as to price. Recent heavy rains are likely to prolong the supply of good winter gum. Supplies for 21 days of October are about 470 tons. We think it advisable to again repeat here that our j quotations are based upon the average price at which bost ordinary is obtainable j in quantity. Wo quote :
Best ordinary Fciir ordinary £40 Poor ordinary (nominal) ... £30 to £34 East Coast ... £71 to £72
