(Before Messrs E. F. Tizard, and W. -;McCullough, Justices.) Drunkenness. — One first offender was fined 5s or 24 hours hard labour ; 'Ann Swift for drunkenness was fined 10s or 48 hours ; Frank Smith was sentenced to one month hard labour ; Mary Bennett was fined 10s or 14 days for being , drunk, and 10s and costs 5s for maliciously breaking a pane of glass in the window of the cab, in which she was taken to the station. Alleged Assault and Robbery.—John Austin appeared on remand to answer to the charge of having on tbo 10th of October assaulted Letitia Hughes and stolen from her the sum of 2a 6d.—Mr J. A. Tolo appeared for the accused. — Evidence having been taken, Mr Tole submitted that the case was a weak one. The probabilities were that the half-crown was spent for drink. He contended that the evidence was an incongruous conglomeration of absurdities.—The Bench decided to dismiss the case, as the evidence of the complainant wa3 of such a character as not to warrant a conviction. —Letitia Hughes was then cnarged with habitual drunkenness. She pleaded nob guilty.—Evidence was given by Constable Gordon that accused was drunk.—She was sentenced to fcurteen days' hard labour.
