NEW SOUTH WALKS CRISIS.
SIR HENRY PARKES'S POSITION. ENGLISH OPINIONS. London, October 18. It is rumoured in London that Sir Henry Parkes, Premier of New South Wales, will succeed Sir Saul Samuel as Agent-General for that colony. The " Standard," in referring to the political crisis in New South Wales, declares that any Government trying to satisfy the new ciaims of the Labour party, will drift into even a more precarious position than that led by Sir Henry Parkes. The English press generally refer in terms of regret to Sir Henry's rumoured retirement from political li/e. The "St. James's Gazette " alleges that financial anarchy and confusion will reign supreme in New South Wales, and that the local newspapers suppress information as to the dismissal of Sir Henry Parkes, which, it believes, removes the only guarantee of sjafety of British investors. It adds that the recent loan was - obtained under excuses of conversion absorbed by accommodation bills with local banks.
