DIOCESAN CHORAL FESTIVAL.
The annual Diocesan Choral Festival took place lasb evening ab bhe Church of the Holy Sepulchre. Unfavourable weather seriously interfered with the attendance, but in spite of the downpour of rain there was a very good congregation. The clergy present numbered aboub twenty, including Bishop Cowie, and the choir comprised 24 boys, men, and a number of ladiss. The Rev. I. Richards intoned the prayers, and the Revs. P. Walsh and fche Yen. Archdeacan Govetfc read fche lessons. The sermon was preached by fche Rev. C. M. Nelson from Romans x v., 6, who impressed upon tho congregation the noble privilege they possessed of worshipping God in His own house, that there should be a proper spirib in their worship, and that they should sing and pray with one accord. The choir pieces included Magnificat and Nunc Dimifctis, and Sir Arthur Sullivan's anthem, "Hearken Unto Me," from Isaiah, chap. 51, the hymns, " Forward be our Watchword," " The Saints of God," and the recessional hymn " Blessed Feasb of Martyrs." The service concluded with the benediction pronounced by the Bishop. Tho offertory amounted to £5 5s sd.
