OUR VOLUNTEERS.
There is very little probability of tho necessary mbney being subscribed ab Wellington towards the expenses of a permanent range for the annual competition of bhe New Zealand Rifle Association, and bhe next meebing wilt be eibher held ab Auckland or in Hawke's Bay, If in the latter, Captain Somervillo thinks that bhe range occupied ab last meebing would bo available with but little cost,, though he doubts whether much money would be subscribed by the Hawke's Bay residents.
The Ponsonby Naval Artillery Company volunteers go into camp ab Fork Resolution nexb monbh, and put in a fortnight) at gun drill at the fort, at the conclusion of which the examinations for the year will be held. The Auckland Navals may go into camp at the same time.
Major Goring, has jusb concluded . tha examination ,of ■ the Ponsonby corps in gunnery for the year 1890, and also in knotting and splicing, etc., iv allot which departments the men acquitted themselves creditably.
The Royal Irish Rifle Volunteer Company paraded for inspection lasb evening ufc bhe Drill-shed. No inspecbion was made, however, bub Capbain 'i'obin put tho Company through an exhaustive course of infantry drill.
