AUCKLAND PROVINCIAL AGRICULTURAL ASSOCIATION.

A MEETING of the Auckland Provincial Agricultural Association was hold this afternoon at Hurst's Farmers' R. 001113. Mr \V. F. JMsssey, fcho President, occupied the chair. The attendance was a very largo one. Nkw Members. — A. Fitzmaunce, of Diury, C. Hender, R. Monk, F. L. Wright, Uuthbertson, VV. Winsbone, J. Inder, S. Baird, Alexander Bell, and Dr. Kenderdino were elected new members. Proposed Tax on Stallions.' —The Chairman said the object of the meeting was the consideration of the proposed tax on stallions. They would have to consider it such a course would tend to improve the breed of stallions, or whether the want of food when with foals was not the reason of their having so many uoor stallions, or would it not be an increased burden on them and an infringement on tho liberty of the subject. He had much pleasure in announcing tliafc iir John Phillips would read a paper on the subject-. Mr John Phillips, who was "received with applause, said that ho honed he would not be thought presumptuous for having taken (ho lead in the matter. He had had a good deal of experience, but he did not claim to be an expert. Yet he hopod to be ablo to shed some feht on the important question. Mr Phillips then proceeded to read his paper, which was antagonistic to the proposed tax on entire horses. He took the interrogatory system and asking various questions, proceeded to argue on them. quoted from tho "Live Stock Journal" gevoral times. He thought the desire of the Government to tax entire horses waa only another instance of the insonsate passion of the Government to interfere in each and every class of business of which it knew nothing.
