LABOUR CONFERENCE.

Wellington, this day. The Labour Conference, which haa been convened principally for the purpose of considering the labour Bills to be brought down by the Government this session, opened at the Government Buildings yesterday. The delegates present are 11. yi uter ami A. Judge, JJunedin; F. R. Bust and T. Hadfield, Auckland ; G. Simpson and J. Clemporth, Chrietchurch ; J. Kelly, M.H.R., Invorcargill; W. F. Johnston and i>. P. Fisher, Wellington. Mr Slater was elected Chairman, and Mr Fisher secretary. Tho proceedings are not open to the press. They are expected to last about ten days. The Conference fixed the hours of sitting from 9 a.m. tc 12.30 p.m., and 2 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. It was decided that a deputation consisting of Messrs Slater, Simpson, and Fisher wait on Sir Goorge Grey, and congratulate him on the success of his et'ortf in the labour cause in Australia, and also to a*k him to give an opinion on the Labour Bill. The Secretary was further instructed to write to the Trades and Labour Council of New South Wales, congratulating them on the success the labour party achieved at the general elections on Wednesday last. The Factory Bill was taken into consideration yesterday morning, but a motion was passed that no information concerning tho resolutions arrived at with rexpect to any of tho Bills bo given to the prcwi until tho Government lias been acqunirit'j'l with them.
