O'Brien's mares Hazel and Tasmania were brought up from Christchurch this week, to be located with IMr O'Brien's other matrons at the Wellington Park Stud. Tasmania has a Johnny Faulkner foal at her side. Tha cause of Ival not starting at the Auckland Winter Meeting was owing to Mr Golian's horse having thrush in the fesis. I notice that tho stable have paid up for Ivai in the big , Hawke's Bay Steeplechase, while his stable companion Darnley has dropped out-. Darniey is among the acceptor.-, for the Hurdle Race.
The combined Otahuhu and Auckland Treeing Clubs have handed over a very substantial sum to the Huntly disaster fund by their late meeting at Potter's Paddock. The neb profit was £89, which must be reckoned most satisfactory. Mr Mark, the secretary, and the officials of the Clubs deserve thanks for their combiced services in the matter.
Mr D. A. McLeod, the local psnciller, leaves by next week's steamer on an extended trip to Australia.
There lias been some betting on tho New Zealand Cup in Christenurcb. Merrie England, Tirailleur, and Crackshob have been backed at 100 to 7, and a point longer has mob with acceptance about the two stable companions Morpheus and .Prime Warden.
The following dates have been peiected for tho race meetings of tho Canterbury Jockey Club during the season 1891-92 : — Spring Meeting, November 9, 11, and 14 ; Summer Meeting, January 31 ; Autumn Meeting, April 18 and 19. Mr J. D. Ormond has a big string of horses being prepared for next season. In addition to his rising two-year-olds, he roils " Sir Launcelofc " thab he has the following other horses in work :—The hurdlers Blue Mountain, Ofcaieri, and Forty Winks ; St. Andrew, by St. Leger—Scottish Lassie ; Queen of Trumps, by Leolinus—Maid of Atliol : Free Lanoo, by St. George—Becky Sharp; Triton, by St. Leger—Naiad ; Hippolyenes, by St. Leger—Abalanta ; Sabra, by St. George—Miss Flat; «Thane, by Sword Dance—Lady Mersey, and Spot, by Albany—Zelica. Next season's programmes of the Canterbury Jockey Club show that tho fcofcal amount) ot sbake3 to be given by tho Club at their Metropolitan, Summer and Autumn Meetings is £9,340, an increase of £545 on last year's figures.
Mr J. E. Kenry, who has hitherto been handicapping for tho Woodville Jockey Club, and has recently been appointed handicapper to the C.J, C, has, according to a local paper, " informed the secretary of the W.J.C., Mr Nicholson, that he is not resigning his services to tho local Club. He still intends to reside &i Feilding, and will merely visit Christchurch when required in bis capacity as handicapper to the C.J.C." "Will this suit the big Christchurch Club? Ninety-one entries have been received for the five events on the programme for the inaugural moating of the Hawke's Bay Trotting Club, which will take place on Juno 23rd, at Hastings.
Mr Donald Fraser's filly Fortune (Ascot —Speculation), engaged "in the Hav/ke's Bay Guineas and New Zealand Cup, is reported to be wintering well. Her owner recently received an oiier of 200 guineas for her.

The brother to Tirailleria has been called Taireur, and the half-brother to Lochiel, Culloden. The.=e youngsters, as well as the same owner's Leontini (Leolinus — Wcodnymph) and Forlorn Hope (Artillery — Escalade) are engaged in most of the forthcoming classic evonfs of the Victoria Racing Club.

The members of tho Club ha /c approved of tho following suggested additions to the rules oi' racing:—Rule 185a —No steeplechase shall be loss than two miles, and there shall be ab least twelve fences in the lirst two miles, and at ieasfc six fences in each succeeding mile. Rule 1E5".--No hurdle race shall be less than two miles, nor over less than f-oven flights of hurdles, with an additional flight oi hurdles for every further quarter of a mile'; the height of tho hurdles to be nob less than 3 foot 6 inches from tho ground to tho top bar. The members have also approved that the " Rules of the Totalisator " should be incorporated in the "Rules of Racing'," and chat the following should ha bho ruloa of fcho totalisator :—l. The totalizator shall be closet! at tho advertised time of starting the race, provided that if through accident or other unavoidable cans;! the advertised time emnob bo ad.ierod to, the stewards may postpone the advertised time of starting, but notice of such postponement must be posted on the totalizator, or other conspicuous place, at least thirty minutes prior to tho time at which the ri'.cc i.-? ordered (;o be started. 2. Ail dividends shall bo paid to the horse placed I'vr-b by the }udge. provided no objection is raised by the stewards ; tho proprietors of the machine to pay out only on tho written authority of two sbowardis and the Secretary. 3. In the event of a hoi'se winning not backed, all money invested returner! less the commission. 4. {(/) In tho event of a dead heat, the total money will be equally divided on each horso running the dead heat and tha investors paid pro fata- (l>) In the event of a dead heat being run off, iv shall bo treated as a new race, and the totalisafeors may bo opened for investment on game. 5. No fraction of a shilling will be paid out. 6. All money invested on scratched horse? goes to tho winner, and can on no account ba returned. 7. All holders of winning tickefcs must claim their money within an hour after the last race, excopb when a protest) has bean lodged, in which case the stewards will appoint a time for payment of money. Bub in such event, the holder of ticket 3 on any horse in the race who may be subsequently declared the winner shall register such tickets with the Secretary within an hour after the la3t race, or they shall nob be entitled to the dividend. 8. No defaced ticket will in any case bo admissible unless certifiod to by bho stewards. 9. Ten per cent, commission will be charged on all money invested. 10. Should any dispute arise, the same shall bo referred to the stewards, whose decision in all casos shall be final. They have also resolved to recommend that Rule 46 bo altered by striking ouo the words "unless otherwise specified, " and ihe insertion after the word "winner" in tho third line, the words "except in cases of a dead licab when the owners divide, in which case tho penalty shall bo calculated on the amount actually payable to the winners." And that the following new rule bo adopted : 23a. At any meeting held on any dafco from Sept. Ist) to April 30th, nob more than eight races shall be included in any one day's programme, and from May Ist to August 31st nob more than seven races shall bo included in any day's programme.
