THE CARD SCANDAL.
THE PRINCE OF WALES.
Loxdox, June 16. Mr E. Stanhope, Secretary for War,
in replying to Mr Summer's question, said Lieutenant Levett had, like the Prince of Wales, expressed his regret that he did not bring the matter under ihe notice of his superior officer.
A society journal called the " Dwarf" declares that it possesses sure details showing that Sir William GordonCumrning was absolutely innocent. It has promised to disclose them later on. The statement has caused some sensation.
The " Daily Chronicle," referring to the official statements in the House of Commons, says Mr Stanhope has gone out of his way to place a cushion to soften the fall of the Prince of Wales. Other monarchs are soldiers, but the Prince has never served a campaign, therefore he might at least be expected to honour the uniform he wore.
Later.
The apology offered by the Prince of Wales has produced a good impression. The American papers sympathise with him.
