IMPOVERISHED COUNTIES.

Wellington this day. A deputation of representatives of the coast counties of the South Island waited on the Premier relative to the breakdown or the county system for want of funds, vvhicli is attributed to the abolition of rating on Crown lands and gold duty. They asked to have the Act amended to enable them to tax vehicles, whether plying for hire or nob, and also for advances against the revenue. The Premier asked for nreß ' etc., and promised to give the question full consideration, it came out during the discussion that whereas the cost of working in VVestland and Inangabua was 5 and 7 per cent, of the revenue, in the Groy and Bulle" ib waa 17 and 20.
