LABOUR BUREAUS.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —I see from to-day's paper thab labour bureaus are to be opened in the towns of New Zealand—l suppose to check the exodus of our population. Very good so far, but, better still, go to bhe root of the matter and stop much ot the needless absurd taxation thab now encircles the colonist. Why, Mr Editor, if you want to repair a leakage in the roof of your house
you have fco pay ls for permit before the man you hire dare go on the roof with a few shingles. The taxes seem to be imposed largely to make work for a certain number of Civil servants ; returns have to be sent in frequently and a fee ab the same bime—for whab earthly use it's difficult to tell, as the returns v_ay be published two years after. Bub our people are leaving every week, as the passenger nets of bbc steamers show. Such things as these disgust our people, and those who can, leave us fco bear fche burden. —I am, etc., An Intending Emigrant.
