The Government intend to ask Lord Wolseley to recommend .an Imperial Officerjwell up in the latest scientific and military knowledge as commandant of the New Zealand forces at a salary of about £700. 'This will be provided without any increase in the estimates out of the retrenchments. The engagement will be for a limited term, ab the end of which tho Government will eitheV renew it or obtain the services of another officer.
