COMMANDANT OF THE FORCES.

Wellington, this day. The Government intend to ask Lord Wolseley to recommend .an Imperial Officerjwell up in the latest scientific and military knowledge as commandant of the New Zealand forces at a salary of about £700. 'This will be provided without any increase in the estimates out of the retrenchments. The engagement will be for a limited term, ab the end of which tho Government will eitheV renew it or obtain the services of another officer.
