Messrs Arthur and Buddle's Weekly R£H>KT. — Business has been up to the average. In values of produce there is little or no change to report. Several lines of Southern potatoes havo come forward daring the week, in addition to the locally grown but the demand has not been correspondingly active. We quote :£3 for Southern (sacks in), and for prime local £3 to £3 10s (sacks extra). _ Onions of first quality are scarce, and. in demand. Canterbury hams and bacon have been in good supply, and sales effected at 7d to 7_d, and 8d to BJd in small quantities ;by the case, 6l_d, for even numbers. Fresh butter has beon abort of demand, at full values ; corned has sold freely during the week ; there is a good inquiry for first-class. There has been an active demand for good cheese, and best dairies have realised up to 4d._ Fresh eggs continue very scarce. Grain of all kinds has sold well. The supply of fruit has been smaller, owing to the large quantities that are being exported; average prices have shown a considerable improvement on previous quotations. Poultry has been in good supply, at about last week's pricos. Auction salos for the week have been six in number, all at the jdarfc: Poultry, produce, and fruit on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, drapery on Wednesday. On Thursday a sale of property, being a dwelling-house and allotlaent in Colling wood-street; the bidding was languid, and did not come up to the owner's reserve. Household furniture on the same day sold well. Messks Esam and Arthur's Weekly Retort.—The produce market is not distinguished by any marked alteration, during the week, except in potatoes, which have receded in value by about 10s per ton. We quote : Prices nominal at £3 for first quality ; Southern shipments have glutted the market, and the supply from all Eources is far in excess of requirements. Fowl wheat is scarce and in good demand at 3s 3d to 3s 4d wholesale. Maize is firmer, although we think only temporarily—value 3a to 3s 2d. Oats : Some fitfw.jj£s.^«y N _a. taken place, but pric&s remain about the same ; quality shows no improvement. We have sold dpring the ■week at Is 6d to 2s 3d, the latter&guro for very prime heavy short. Bacon i The demand for Sou bhem continues good ; tio local submitted to auction. Onions : For really prime we quote £5 10s, and have orders yet to complete at this figure. Eggs uontinue scarce; pickled, at9d to Is; guaranteed fresh, Is 7d to Is Bd. Bran and sharps are in steady demand at £3 15s to £4 5s respectively. Cheese: Several large consignments to hand, and cleared at an average of 3d. Vegetables were staged in abundance. Fruit: The supply has been good and prices show an improvement, particularly in apples. Mr Alexander Aitken's Market Report for the week ending 2nd May:— Business generally active, and tho oubpub for the week was considerably beyond the average. The demand for fruib has been unlimited ab further advanced rates. All lines sold at auction under very keen competition. The supply for the week has been fully 1,000 cases of all kinds, and every case has been disposed of. Firstclass cooking apples, in lines, from to ijd; medium lots, Id to ljd; inferior and mothed, Id to ld. Dessert: Cox's Orange, l_d ; Adams' Pearmain, lfd to lid; Simmon's Winter, l|d to ljd; Stone's Pippin, l.d to l|d ; Ohinemuri, ljd to ljd; Pear's Beurre Diel, 2fd to 3Jd ; other dessert, 2|d to 3d ; Napoleon, l_d to 2d; other second-class, ljd to lfd. On Wednesday 1,084 bunches bananas, ex Wainui, were disnosed of, prices ruling very low, owing to the market being overstocked. Prices were 9d to 2s 3d per bunch. 250 bunches, ex s.s. Little Agnes, from Norfolk Island, realised from 5d to la ld per bunch. Oranges, 3s 6d to 4s 6d per case; passion fruit;, 2d to 2Jd ; grapes, 5d to lOd per lb ; tomatoes, Jd to ld ; quinces, poor, Jd to ld ; lemons, 6d to la LJd ; walnuts, 9d; Cape gooseberries, s£d to b_d. In dairy produce supplies have been heavy. Eggs : New laid, la 6d to Is 9d ; pickled, 6d to Is. Butter: Prime fresh, 8d to lOd; poor, 5d to 7d; factory, lOd to la; tinned, Is 2d. Keg butter has moved freely; prime lots, 4£d to 6d; poor, 4d. Roll butter in pickle in good demand ab id. Cheese dull at 2d to 4d. Bacon : New cure in good supply at 4d to 7d ; hams, 6d to 8d ; Canterbury, 3Jd to 7d. Lard, 2d to 3d. Honey in strong demand—firstclass, in bulk, 3Jd ; other, tins, 3Jd to 4d ; section, 4d. Potatoes continue plentiful, and rather dull ab £2 5s to £3 10a sacks included. Onions of prime quality in demand beyond supply at £6, and |d to |dtor small lots. Garlic, no demand.
