The annual interproviucial boat race, over a two mile course, between the Gisborne and Napier Rowing Cluba, was won by Gisborne, by a length,' after a good race.

The bowling match between Wellington and New Plymouth, on March 28, resulted in a win for the latter. The scores were : Wellington, 44 ; New Plymouth, 99. •

There was a splendid attendance on March 30th at New Plymouth at the bowling; match, Napier v. New Plymouth. The former was defeated by 46 points. The Wellington-Napier return match resulted in a win for Wellington by 30 points. The Wellington New Plymouth return match, three rinks, resulted in a victory for Wellington by five points.

The Eden and Epsom Tennis Club may well congratulate itself on the results of this season's play. Its lady representative, Miss Spiers, though beaten for the championship by Miss Mowbray, of Parnell, played a splendid game; Mr Morrison beat Mr Goodhue, of Parnell, for the Gentlemen's Singles ChampionBhip. In the inter - club doubles its representatives won four games out of five against Parnell; and on April 4feh won the whole five events against the University Club.

There was quite a large crowd in the neighbourhood of Government House gatos and the Northern Club on April 18th to witness the meet of tandems. About thirteen or fourteen teams were marshalled by Dr. Purchas, and there were numbers of single horse dog carts, buggies, carriages, and cabs, besides a sprinkling of ladies and gentlemen on horseback. At a few minutes after two, the Governor and Lady Onelow drove out of Government House in a wellappointed Victoria and waited for some fifteon minutes at> the head of the line watching the various teams. Dr. Purchas then gave the signal and headed by the vice-regal turn-out the whole cavalcade went at a smart pace up Princes-street after turning off into Symond-street. The tandems drove to Onehunga, but the Governor did not intend going so far.

The inter-provincial cricket match between Canterbury and Wellington was played on March 28 at Wellington. The wicket was slow and very treacherous, and pub the Canterbury men at a great disadvantage. Thoy only made 60 in the first innings, and 88 in the second. Nobody got double figures in the first innings, while Demaua 25, Wilding 15, and Cohen 20, were the double-figure men in the second. Dryden got 11 Canterbury wickets for 56; Fitzsitntnons, 6 for 33. The Wellington men in the first innings started in a procession ; but Fuller, with 33 not out, Frith 10, and Niven 15, raised the score to 76. Demaus got 7 wickets for 48 runs. In the second innings, Wellington, requiring 63, got 23 rune for 1 wicket, and Blacklock and Moorhouse carried the total to within one of the number required, when Blacklock was bowled. The Gordon Football Club had a very successful annual meeting in the Imperial Hotel on the evening of April 4. Mr Herrold occupied the chair. The report and balancesheet were adopted, the latter showing a small debit balance caused by heavy expenses fora gymnasium last season. About 20 new members were elected. The following officers were elected :—President and, vice-presidents, re-elected, with the addition of Mr J. M. Shera M.H.R. as a vicepresident;; captain, F. Jervis ; vice-captain, H. Poland ; secretary and treasurer, T. Neill; committee, T. Murray, D. Stewart, and M. Herrold. It was decided that the first fifteen should not interfere with the second's members to the disadvantage of the latter.

The annual meeting of the Grafton Football Club was held in the British Hotel April 2. There was a very good attendance* The report and balance-sheet, showing that there was a credit balance of £3 6s, and that last season the Club was very successful, having eight wen in the representative teams, were adopted. Officers were elected as follows; — Captain A. Smith; deputy Captain H. Kissliug; Secretary and Treasurer, J. Firth ; Committee, the above and Messrs Hyarns and L. Hill. The president and vice-presi-dents were re-elected, and Messrs Page and j. Gallagher were also elected vice-presi-dents.

When His Excellency the Governor Lord Onslow was in Auckland last year he instituted military sports, which were so successful that the promoters determined to organise another gathering this year. The sports took place on March 28 at Potter's Vaddock, Epsom, commencing soon after ten o'clock in the morning, and it was nearly seven in the evening before the long programme \vas brought to a conclusion. Previous to Lord Onslow leaving the ground, he presented two prizes won during the day. Lieutenant Barriball (Waiuku Cavalry) received the cup won by his squad for tho cavalry pursuing practice, and Alajor liamlin was congratulated on the success of tho Waiuiui men in tho snveral competitions. Trooper Flesman was presented with the medal won by him in the Victoria Cross competition. Advantage was also taken of the occasion to present Lieutenant Tobin, of the Royal Irish RiHes, with Claik's District Champion Belt, recently won by him ; and a New Zealand war medal was likewise presented to Mr Crother by Lord Onslow.

The sports held in connection with Court Pride of Onehunga, No. 5,261, on the Recreation Grounds, Onohunga, on March 31st, were a great success. About 800 persons were present. The procession marched co the ground about 10 o'clock through Queen-street, headed by the Onohunga brass band aud the beautiful silk bannor of tho local lodge. "Robin Hood," in the orthodox "Lincoln Green " and flowing plumes on horseback, was muck admired. In addition to adult Foresters, there woro a vory considerable number of juveniles, who are members of the junior lodge. The grounds are about one mile from the township, and adjoin tho new cemetery. The competitions wore v/eil arranged, and fairly carried out, and tho Committee of Management may congratulate themselves upon having provided their visitors with a good day's sport. Tho ball in connection with tho sports and picnic took place in the Public Hall. There was a large gathering, and the dancing was kept up until early morning.

Tho annual mooting of tho University F.C. was held in tho Collego library on April 6th. A number of new members were elected. Tho annual report and balancesheet were adopted. The following oih'cors were elected lor the onsuing season :— Patron, Lord Onilow ; president, Professor Thomas ; vice-patrons, Professors Brown and Pond, Dr. .1. Giles, Messrs C. F. Bourne, F. E. Baume, J. Dihvorth, and E, Hesketh ; captain, C T. Major ; deputy captain, C. A. Tisriall ; secretary, P. F. Battley ; treasurer, T. U. Wells.

The annual meeting of tho Aratapu Football Club was held on Monday evening, April 6th. Tho Secretary, Mr Stallworthy, road the balance-sheet, showing a credit balance of ill 6s 6d. Tho namos of 45 persons wore then given in as members. The following officers were elected :—

President, Mr J. A. Walker ; Vice-Presi-dents, Messrs T. Bassett and Wm. Vousden ; Secretary and Treasurer, Mr J. Stallworthy ; Captain, Mr E. Bassett ; Vice-Captain, Mr W. Phelan ; Committee, Messrs Bonella, Ctookes, Cunningham and Marcroffc. A Selection Committee of three non-players was docided upon, and the choice fell upon Messrs Forsciick, Crookes and Stallworthy. Tho Club agreed to join with any othore on tho river, and compete for a challenge cup.

The annual meeting of the Ponsonby F.C. was held on April 6th in the Central Hotel, and was very successful. Mr W. George occupied the chair. The report and balance sheet for last year were read and adopted. After referring to the success of the first fifteen in winning the Senior Cup and of the second fifteen, the report referred in feeling terms fco the deaths of H. Daniels and J. Uonway, two former players in the first fifteen. The balance-sheet showed a email crodit. About 25 new members were olectod. A letter was read irom the Thames Club, inviting Ponsonby to play a match at tho Thames on the 23rd May,and was favourably received. Officers for the year wore elected as follows :—President, Mr Jos. Macky; vice-presidents, Messrs Brigham, iJevore, T. T. Masefield, T. Macky, Caulton, Revs. Father* O'Gara and Lenihan ; captain, A. Braund ; deputy captain, J; Hefi'ernan ; secretary and treasurer, A. Mundy; Committee, J. Arneil, R. Caulton, R. Maseheld.
