PARNELL.
The ordinary meeting of the Parnell Borough Council was held last night. There were present: Mr Scaly (Mayor), in the chair, Messrs Gilmore, Gay, McCabe, Kissling, Augur, Thornes, and Savage. Report of Streets Committee.—Mr Littlejohn's application for Albion Road repairs was reported on. It was resolved that soil from St. Stephen's Road trenches should be placed at the disposal of Mr Littlejohn. Mr Salmon's complaints about the state of Ayr-street had been looked into and some improvements effected. Some alterations, new cuttings, etc., were recommended by the Committee to prevent the flooding of Ayr-street from water rushing from the Manukau Road. NUISANCES.—The report of the nuisances officer wae satisfactory. The slaughterhouses were cleanly and properly worked. Nothing definite bad be3n heard re the Clyde-street drain. Letters.—A letter was read from William Holder. Some time ago he obtained permission to erect a boat shed on the western side of St. George Bay. The shed was nob large enough for his requirements and he begged permission to lengthen it 10 feet. Application granted. Mr M. Neville wrote to ask the Council to reconsider their decision in reference to the connection of his property in Clyde-street with the main drain in Stratford-street. After considerable discussion it was decided that as no reason had been assigned Mr Neville be requested to comply with tho order of the Council.
Petition from Brighton Road. — A petition from six residents in Brighton Road concerning certain improvements to the footway, entailing the removal of a clay bank, was read by the clerk and presented by Cr. Savage. The matter wa3 referred to Streets Committee for report. Mr Withy's proposals in writing referred to in the Streets Committee's report concerning certain alterations and improvements in Churton-street were read. Some discussion followed, concerning on whose land the wall and fence to be put up should be, and nearly an hour was absorbed over the wording of the motion deferring the matter. It was finally, after interminable discussion, resolved to defer the matter. Mr Gardiner to furnish an estimate of the cost of the undertaking at next meeting. Accounts. —Accounts to the amount of £63 11s 3d wore passed for payment. The general statement of funds was as follows :— General account, debit, £2 15s Id ; water account, credit, £36 7s 6d ; waterworks credit, £35 15s 6d ; drainage loan account, £122 18s 7d.
