THE WAIROA TRAGEDY.
FRY BEFORE THE COURT.
The hearing of the charge of murder againsc Thomas Fry, alias Floyd, was continued ab bhe Police Court yesterday afternoon before Messrs Collins and Lodder, J's.P. Alter we went to press Dr. James F. Carolan, of Bombay, was examined, and corroborated the statements of Dr. Bewes.
Mr J. A. Pond, analyst, had examined a pair of trousers and a vest. On bhe vest there were stains of blood, but all on the inside lining. He had found no blood on the tioiiHcrs. The stains asemed to be ot recent origin, and were those of the blood of a mammal, but he could go no fart/her. Agnes Patterson, the housekeeper, remembered Mr Veitch being called oub, and a voice saying "I have a letter for you." She could not then say who it was. Veitch went oub, and said, "Who is there ?" and after, "What do you want?" Then she heard five heavy blows, and Veibch cried, "Oh dear, you have murdered me." She ran oub and found Veitch, who asked if she had seen the man. She asked, " What man ?" He replied, "Than awful man that murdered me." He said it was the man to whom he paid the money for doing the oats. Witnesß helped Veitch back to tha house. Blood was flowing from mouth, nose, and head. His pockets were inside out and his wabch) was gone. Prisoner was called Mexican, and witness identified him as the man who was employed by deceased last January.
James Stricketb, a farm hand, deposed that he knew prisonei, who had baen in the habit of sleeping in Bain's barn. Witness sl.pt with him about four nights, the last nighb being the night of, Sunday, 22nd March. Accused had a watch guard bub no wabch. Accused said to witness on the afternoon of the murder thab he was going to Veitch's to look tor work. Witness again saw accused on the morning after the murder, and accused .aid ho had been down to Wairoa. Accused looked much as usual. The Court then adjourned till this morning-
