Amateur Athletic Association AND CYCLISTS' ALLIANCE.

The combined championship meeting held in the Domain in connection with the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association and Cyclists' Alliance was concluded on Saturday afternoon. There was a great crowd of spectators bo witness bhe sports, fully 7,000 being present, and interest in bhe proceedings was fully sustained to the finish. The turf was again in splendid condiblon for running and a number of records were put up. In the Quarter-mile Hurdle Championship, Batger, of Wellington, broke the world's amateur record, running the distance in 61 2-ssec. Alacpherson, the brilliant Sydney runner, equalled the New Zealand Championship performance of J. H. Hempton in the 100 yards Flat Championship,"and in the Quarter Mile Flat Championship he beat the amateur record for the colony. T. O'Connor, of Auckland, beatthe New Zealand amateur record by 2ft lin in putting the 161b weight. The Three Mile Flab Championship produced a great finish between Wood, of Christchurch, and Corner, of Sydney, the first-named winning by about three yards, after a tremendous spurt some short distance from the tape. The Quaiter-Mile Flat was the means of a deal of interest, many thinking that the local man, Hutchinson, was capable of defeating Macpherson. The result proved otherwise, for bhe Sydneyite left the mark the exact second the pistol was fired, and although Hutchinson made a game and determined effort to draw level in the straight with him, he had to put up with a two yards' defeat. Hutchison, however, ran a splendid race throughout, and fully maintained his reputation. At the conclusion of the sports, the ground was surveyed by Messrs Stewart and Hunter, and found to be correct.
