A BARQUE LOST.

WRECK OF THE LOCH KAW.

ASHORE AT NEW CALEDONIA

ALL HANDS SAFE.

Brief advices received by us to-day from Fiji, per the s.s. Rotokino, stated that news had arrived in Suva of the total wreck of the barque Loch Is aw, of Sydney, on the New Californian coast. Captain A. Petersen, who was in command of the wrecked vessel and whois well known in Auckland, sends' a brief repQrt statiug that the Loch Naw is a complete loss, but no lives were lost. The barque was proceeding from Noumea to a locality on the northern coast of New Caledonia, preparing bo load a cargo of chrome ore for Sydney, whence she had brought across coals for Noumea just previously. She drifted ashore in a calm on. to, a reef close in shore and started to break up. In a short time she was a total wreck. Captain Peterson and hie crew managed to reach shore safely in the barque's boats. The Loch Naw was a well-known visitor to Auckland. She was here last about six monbhs ago. She was a wooden barque of 277 tons, and was' built at the Isle of Whithorn in 1867. She was one of Mr J. C, Ellis' well-known Sydney fleet of intercolonial trader,. She was a handsomelooking craft. Mr Ellis has had considerable bad luck with his vessels lately. The barque Belle Isle was condemned ab Melbourne recently, the barque Sharpshooter is in a bad way at Sydney, and the loss of the Locb Naw follows on this.
