WAITEMATA COUNTY COUNCIL.
A -meeting of the Waifcemata County Council was held this afternoon. Mr R Mackay was in the chair, and there wire present: Messrs Jack, R use , McLetd Sinclair, Wilson, Sharp, and Captain McIvlahon. r | Finance Committee's Report —The Commitee reported as follows : Your Committee held a meeting on Friday, JanuJrv 9tb They recommend that' roads laidEE by Mr Dufaur on his property at Lucas Creek, and approved by the engineer te accepted by the publif roads.LMr Warmoll had waited on the Commit with reference to payment of his ratTs The Committee recommend that he be fl*lowed till the Ist July to pay the* atnoubt due by himselt and wife. The Com mittee had also been waited on by Mr Kennedy who surrendered his contract for the doviatbn of Red Hill W»V komiti. Northcote Pound.—The consideration of an erection of a pound at Northcote was deterred to nexb meeting. Mr Hammond's application for a road was refused on the report of Mr Wilson, who did not think it would be of any practical value. Mr Jono's application for a road at Birkenhead was deferred for tha present on the same grounds.
Road at Gp.ee.vhy.h_.—An application for a road at Greonhythe was received from the residents in that district. At present they were dependent on private tracks, which might ad any time be closed. Alter some discussion it was decided to deier the matter till next meeting. Mr Harrow's Letter.—At "this point Mr Harrow got up and asked bhat his letter should be read. He had sent a letter registered and had received an answer by post.—The Chairman refused to read the letter. It was not a nt letter to read. —Mr Harrow expressed his indignation ab the letter not being read. —Mr Bruce said that the letter was not the property of tho person, but of the Council. Mr Harrow said he had been charged with rates on property which he did not possess and had not possessed for 12 months. Mr Harrow asked if the Council undertook tho responsibility of not reading his letter. If they did he would put the answer sent him by the Council, in which his letter was pronounced indecent, in the hands of his lawyer and take proceedings.—There was considerable general discussion, bub the feeling of the meeting was that the Chairman had acted right in nob having his letter read if he thought is indecent.— Mr Harrow continued to interrupt the meeting and declared be did not daro to come to settle his affairs on ordinary days as Mr Mays would murder him.— The Chairman said he would agree to come with Mr Harrow any day he liked to _x, and would see he was not murdered.
