In the local produce markeb there is a decided scarcity of good fresh butter, principally on account of the hob " muggy " weather, which is very unfavourable to butter-making. Prices are quoted B9 : First quality, 7d to 8d per lb ; 2nd, 6d per lb ; 3rd, 5d per lb. Eggs are Is per dozen wholesale, with an upward tendency. Cheese, dairy made, fetches 3_d per lb ; and factory cheese *Ud per lb. Bacon and hams (Canterbui-y) aire quoted at 7d per lb, equal numbers. In tho grain markeb there is a better demand for bran and sharps ; sharps are slightly dearer. Maize is worth 3s 2d, with a falling market. Potatoes are worth £4 10s per ton for Derwents. Local milling wheat has sold well la.ely, The kauri gum markeb continues weak and dull, wibh prices unaltered.
