ATHLETIC CHAMPIONSHIPS.

ARRIVAL OF THE SYDNEY TEAM. By the s.s. Te Anau, which arrived ab 6 o'clock this morning, the amateurs who are to do battle for the N.S.W. Amateur Athletic Association were passengers. All landed in good health and spirits and were none the worse for the trip across. The team consists of Messrs W. T. Macpherson (Eastern Suburbs), A. E. Sefton (Darlinghursb Harriers), R. J. White (Sydney Harriers), E. E. Corner (Sydney Harriers), G. Bailey (Darlinghursfe Harriers), and 11. Scbwartzkotf, the Secretary to the N.S.W. Association, who will compete in the 100 yds championship as well as the 120 yds handicap/ Mr A. Lee, who is on a holiday tour, also accompanies the team, while Mr J. Campbell, late Secretary of the N.S.W. Association and member of the Eastern Suburbs Club, will arrive by the next boat. The team were met by Mr J. Halyday, junr., the secretary to the local Club, who hag also b«en appointed assistant secretary to the N*}!'? Zealand Association. After breakfast %h Halyday took the visitors to se* the Domain Ground, and they wers very much pleased with it, and vs/era delighsed to liud that they would be able to run the '250 yards straight. Macpherson, the Australian champion sprinter, «-as greatly disappointed on being told that J. Hempton would, on account or illness, be an absentee from the meeting, ,as he had made special exertions to come to Auckland ?o thut he could light hl.i ICC yards bactle over with the New 7.-..iand crack. The Sydney men give eviduMCii of being in goou form and will no doubt lose little time before continuing- thoir training. A large number of the members of the Auckland Amateur Club welcomed the visitors during to-day. The team are quartered at the Imperial Hotel. The con.'iE talkers are a n'ne-lookiny; lot, and they cam rely on a hearty welcome from Auckland athletes as well as the public in genera].
