A recent Maryborough (Queensland) report says :— " The labour schooner Roderick Dhu will leave Maryborough for the South Sea Islands with somewhere about 30 return kanakas. Considerable interest attaches to this vessel's departure, as, indeed, to the sailing of all South Sea Island vessels of late. Next Wednesday week, December 31sb, finishes for ever the period when vessels can starb from Queensland to recruit among the South Sea Islanis. Much activity has taken place in the trade of late, and the Roderick Dhu i? practically under orders nob to return until she is filled up. The "boys" she will bring back will be allowed to serve three years. The Roderick Dhu is under the command of Captain Paesche, and Mr John Thompson is Governmenb agent.

The annual meeting of the Thames Drainage Board was held yesterday. Mr Clark, of bhe Moanataiari, was appointed assessor. Votes of thanks were passed to Mr Lennox, the late Chairman, and to Mr MacDonnell, the Secretary. The balancesheebjshowed receipts, £4,77818s ; expendi* ture, £4,760 14s 5d ; assets, £823 Is Id; liabilities, £440 7s 9d.
