THE HOSPITAL INQUIRY.
Up to a late hour thi3 afternoon, Dr. Giles had nob received any reply from the Governmenb regarding his request to be relieved from duty as one of the Commission appointed to investigate the charges made by Probationer Arnaboldi in connection with certain cases treated ab bhe Auckland Hospital. The inference from this delay is that the Government are re-consi-dering the subject, wibh a view to appoinbing a Commissioner in the place of Dr. Giles. Probationer Goulstone, whoso term of twelve months' engagement has expired, has been informed by the Secretary of the Board thab the Board do nob propose to continue her engagement. The " Herald," in recording this, states that "Miss Goulsbone, who is a strong sympathiser with Nurse Arnaboldi, has had to rebire from the Hospital," and this, we are informed, puts a very wrongconstruction upon the action of the Board. The House Committee of the Board considered whether they should take Miss Goulstone on for a second year, and in consequence of representations made as to whether the lady was strong enough, physically, for the posibion, decided the question in the negative. Mr Goulstone haa since written to the Board asking for the reasons for adoption of this course, and has been informed by tho Secretary (Mr Garland) that his lecbei will be considered ab the next ordinary meeting of the Board.
