ALFRED J. CADMAN.
Alfred J. Cadman, M.H.R. for Coromandel, is, liko Mr Mitchelson, "a colonial in every ro?<•act." He was a schoolmate of the" Acting - Premier, and there is a hoary tradition tbab both being of about equal age .and strength, boy like, the future legislators had more than one fisfeic encounter on the old Barrack GreeD, beforo that celebrated spot was mowed and shrubbed and parterred into Albert Park. Mr Cadman'a father was intimately connected with the Cape Colville Peninsulafrom enrly in the fifties, and it wa3 to him that the first New Zealand miners' right was issued—a historic document which ig still cherished in the archives of the Cadman family. Young Alfred early took a part in public life. On the inaugaration-Of the county system he became first Chairman of the Coroinandel County Council, and has continued to act in that capacity ever since. He has sat in the House of Representatives as Coromandel since 1881, and being an advanced Liberal, was for several years in cloEe political accord with Sir George Grey.
