In this most favoured clime, To sneak thy thoughts concise and clear, Fraught with the eioquonce of truth: To warm lorn heart 3 with words sincere, And warn and counsel youth. Boojvs thou hast given for leisure hours, "With knowledge stored and views refined, To move men's intellectual powers, And aid the growth of mind. "With learning, taste, and manners bland, The common weal thy cherished aim; Within the senate thou didst stand, But not for laurelled fame. TJio looming cloud thy mind foresaw While yet among arcadian trees, And Freedom's song and Duty's law Were mere than lettered case. 'Twas thine to light the sons of toil. Along the stfadowy paths of life, And sof Lea wirh Hope's genial smile The throes of Labour's strife.
