MISCELLANEOUS.

There is, of course, v&ry little to noto in local cricket this week, owio?.; to there being no matches last Saturday. This affcornoon senior matches should all bo interesting. United and Gordon especially should have a bi;.' light. The Manukau OlekefcA^ociafclonmatches have now tuiriy started. Five ciubs, Bombay, Tuakau, Dmry, PapaUura and Papakura Valley, belong to oho Association. Tuakau beat Papakura last .Saturday. The Association is desirous" of meeting tho Auckland Association in ono or two matches during tho present season, and. no doubt such will be arranged. Mr <>. Mackay, of Bombay, is .Secretary of fcho Manukau Association.

Tho reply that no team from Wellington will this season visib Auckland is ranch to be rogrettoci. Tho Wollington mon aro nob great travellers, probably because thoir Association, like that of Aucklamd, is not rolling in wealth. Btsiil Auekianders manape to keep moving round tho colony when their turn comes.

I hoar of a junior cricketer who wants to leave his club and join another. Tho reason seems to bo that ho wan tod a prize given which he felt; siu'O of v/iunvig. This shows very poor spirit, ami i ehould advise all clubs who have pot-hunters or men who trade on their ability and refuse to pay their subs, to thnv.y them out) of the team. For such cat>e3 a Wporfca Protection Association would bo a good tiling. Judge's Bay Regatta, tnkes plo.ee next Saturday, and promises to bo aboub tho most successful evei" hold in that part of tho harbour. The Committee and Secretary have been working hard and with good results in every way. The Carisbrook Cricket Club played a practice match on Saturday week at Dunodin. J. C. Lawton, the newly imported professional coach, played for biro deputy captain's side, and bowled with deadly execution on a hard, true wicket, on which it was almost impossible to p?.t any work on the ball. His analysts rends : 25 overs, 13 maidens, 8 wickets, 24 runs. Ho also gob 23 runs. He is said to be a nice, gentlemanly young fellow, and good all round, Jackson and Goddard aro matched to fight for £1,100 on Tuesday, 27th January next, in Sydney. The London correspondent of tho Sydney "Referee " says :—" Murdoch, it appears, is likely to remain definitely in England, and may ultimately bo found in tho ranks of Warwickshire—a valuable addition to a nob overstroncj batting side. Barrett has a course of m?dicine to complete, and will stay in England for eomo time." The Sydney '• Referee" says :—" As many inquiriea have reached me as to the coab of fitting the pneumatic tyres to the various machines, I append the St. George (England) Company's homo extra for same, which will £ive a fail " it ' ea of P ro " bable cost. They are £5 extra for safeties and £7 10s for tricycles. For cushion tyres they charge £3 for safeties and £4 10s for tricycles. H. W. PosbJewaito, of Geraldine, woo, when at Cambridge, represented that University in the annual contest with Oxford in the 120 Yards Hurdles, will be a competitor at the Spring Meeting of tho C.A.A.C. Postlewaito, who is a first-class man over hurdles, will compete in the two short bundle races and the lonjr jump. The following aro some extea good performances chronicled at the G.A. A. sports of Limerick, Ireland, September 7 : —

Running High Jump.— J. M. Ryan, 6ft Win.

"Pushing 421b weight from a stand with a follow.—William Real, 27fb 10-Jin.

Pushing 281b shot from a stand with a follow.—William Real, 35ft.

880-yafd Run.—T. M. Mahon (scratch), 1. Time, 2min 3 l-sth sec. Pole Vaulb.—P. Stokes, 10ft 9in. Running Hop, Step, and Jump.—D. Shanahan, Ist, 47fb 4in. The entries for tho Judge's Bay Regatta events close this evening at) 9 o'clock in tho Imperial Hotel. For the under 21 pair oared race in tho regatta there is likely to bo good compoti.tion. Six boats aro likely to start, including B. Jo'hnstone and A. Carmichael, the two Baileys, Cook and another ; and Burgess and Harvey, of North Shore. The Maritana was out last Saturday for her first spin of tho season. She wen'o down to Motutapu. About a dozen yachts were down at Drunken Bay last Saturday. The Mapu was out on Sunday and behaved well in the N.E. gale. Bailey's new boat which is being built to beat the Manola, and Garnet's new one, will make their debut next Saturday afc the Judge's Bay Regatta. The meeting with tho Manola, Maia, Tangaroa and others should be very interesting. Much interest) will also be taken in the meeting of the two new boats by C. Bailey, junr., and Carr in the 3 ton class. I hear little about the Association Rowing Regatta to be held scon. Most of the clubs have however chosen their crews and practice is steadily indulged in. The West End shed is now about concluded. None bub rowing men have been engaged on the work. Jack McDonnell, the runner, is assisting two Ponsonby crews with their training. The Auckland R.C. will send some crows to Gisborne to row there on the Ist of January next. A very polite invitation has been extended to them, and all sorts of good fun promised. The regatta there on that date date will be the first for some years. Napier contestants are likely to foa present. The Wellington Yacht Club had a most successful opening of th,e season last Saturday week. The ceremony consisted of a dummy rescue competition and a procession, and both were carried out with great success in the presence of a large concourse of spectators. Ths competition resulted as follows :—lJirst-class, Isca ; second-class, Iris; third-class, Dream.
