PARNELL REFUSES TO RESIGN.
MR GLADSTONE INCENSED.
THREATENS TO RESIGN.
Lokdon, November 26.
Neither the solicitations of the Liberals and English Home Rule members nor the abuse ot his enemies affects Mr Parnell, who continues to reiterate his refusal to retire. Mr Gladstone feels very strongly on the subject. According to the "Times" Mr Gladstone personally solicited Mr Parnell to resign both before and after his re-election by the Irish members. There is an impression that Gladstone will retire from political life and abandon the parth unless Mr Parnell retires. He is mucy incensed that the Irish leader did not inform the members of his supporters of this ultimatum and its nature before he was safely re-elected. In a letter to Mr Morley, Mr Gladstone states that he had hoped that Mr Parnell would retire unasked. His pretensions to the leadership embarrass the Liberals and render his (Mr Gladstone's) leadership a nullity. Sir Charles Russell, Q.C., M.P., speaking at Hackney, said it was essential that Mr Parnell should resign. At a meeting—the second—of the Irish Parnellites to-day, it was decided to remain faithful to Parnell, even if the cause of Home Rule were delayed for years in consequence.
