THE MASONIC GRAND LODGE.

(To the Editor.)

Sib, —I am not going to enter into any general argument with "P.M., 689, E.C,| and 348,1.C.," as to the proprietyordesirability of the Grand Lodge movement, but the figures winch he puts forth co confi' dently are so entirely incorract and misleading that I cannot permit them to pass unchallenged. In the first place it is not true that there are 153 "live" lodges in the colony. Several of those required to make up that number are defunct or dormant. In the second place the number of lodgee actually working under warrant from the Grand Lodge of New Zealand is very considerably over 60, the number stated by your correspondent. Every month is also bringing in new lodges. Resolutions in favour of the establishment of tfhe Grand Lodge of New Zealand have been passed by 93 lodges, and although a few of these withdrew from the movement when the Governor declined the Grand Mastership, they are still in favour of the principle of local Belf-government, and will no doubt ere long give effect to their former expression of opinion. As to your correspondent's remarks on the Governor's recent action brethren dan estimate that task for themselves: It is an open secret that His Excellency, ever eince his arrival in the colony, has been in constant communication with the Grand Lodge of England on the subject, and that in what he is now doing he has the full approval of the rulers of the English Grand Lpd.ee. With regard to the District and Provincial Grand Masters, it is not true that none of them have approved of the step taken by His Excellency! I know of one who entirely approves of it, and I believe there are others who are also in accord with Bro. Lord Onslow, as indeed all true Masons Ought to be, in this matter.—l am, etc., P.M., 463, S.C. .
