NEW ZEALAND RIFLE ASSOCIATION.
A meeting of fcho Auckland members of the above Association was held at the Drill-shed last) night;, when Lieutenant Haultain presided. There was a good attendance of the local shooting men, and the Chairman explained to them the position that members of Rifle Clubs now stood in,, being on an equal footing with volunteers as far as regards shooting at the Association meetings. It was incumbent on them, therefore, to go in for practice as much as possible so as to bring the Champion Belt back to Auckland in 1891. As the corps are not in a position to assist tha competitors to attend the meeting, owing to lack of funds through decreased capitation, etc., it was resolved to try other means of raising funds to Bend representatives, and a Committee consisting of the Captains of corpe, together with Major Skinner, Sergt. McCallum and fche Chairman were appointed to devise the best means of attaining this object. The Chairman mentioned that owing to Auckland not sending twenty representatives this district was unrepresented in the district representative match atthe JDunedin meeting last 3siiu&ry, and i% : yrai hoped chat a strong team would be sent to Napier to uphold the honour of Auckland. The site for the range has been selected afa Omaranui, near Napier, and competitors will be able to travel via Taranaki and go overland, as the railway is now being completed. After several matters in connection with the next competition had been discussed the meeting terminated.
